Why the school is emphasizing moral education?

In spite of fast changes in science and technology, humans stay the same in their soul. Emotional processes and their ways are unchanged and their handling in today’s world is much more difficult (aggressiveness, stress and over crowding).

A modern school plays an unchanged role in this field. The moral upbringing becomes not only a subject of a certain period, but is linked to all subjects and becomes part of everyday life at school and at home and is part of every individual activity.

The conditions for acquiring moral and social behavior are not created only from a quality curriculum. The personality of the teacher plays an important role. The teacher must become the role model and work with enthusiasm and with high principles, and prepare for the lessons. The teacher initiates the pupils interest in the problems and principles of approaching the task. An equally important aspect is the approach to the pupil who is sub standard, but who now becomes a partner. If the child is not pushed to hide the fact that he/she does not know by lying (often not from laziness and unwillingness to co-operate, but as a lack of understanding or slower understanding) he does not need to create excuses- it’s easier for the pupil to behave normally. When the teacher lends his/her personality to the role of the all knowing and faultless mentor, and by showing self-improvement, he removes the feeling of inferiority from the child. The teacher creates the space for accepting himself/herself as an individual person who is dealing with his/her imperfections, who is not scared of making mistakes which are part of life, but he/she is trying to correct them and learn from them.

The development of all moral characteristics which shun aggressiveness and the development of moral integrity, self reflection and the development of a healthy personality is part of the teaching process.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Social studies creates a unique opportunity for supporting individual personal development, taking care of health, creating personal well-being for every child, helps him/her to create and maintain good relationships and to become active a responsible individual in society. In the social situations study program, children are creating limits of moral values, they are learning to have their own attitudes to learning, understanding and learning skill to help them make decisions in the future. SPHE has a moral and spiritual dimension and it’s implementation is influenced by the overall environment of the school. The prevailing climate in teaching processes in the classrooms, the chosen methodology and approach, mutual relationships, all these influence the social, personal and healthy development of the child.

The SPHE program allows for acquiring skills in all these fields in three ways. By providing a positive atmosphere, at school and during free time, and by implementing the individual aspects of SPHE in the class. This incorporation will allow the teacher to practice a non-stop and active approach toward teaching and teaching preparation and to use a wide range of didactical methods.

As children advance in the SPHE program, they come across questions including abuse, mutual relationships, sexuality, prevention of abuse and prejudice. The SPHE curriculum according to the principle connections of these questions input or emphasis is placed on building up skills, values, opinions, empathy, relevance toward these questions and answering these on demand.

Information technology

Mass communication tools are today indispensable from every day life, and it is necessary to implement them into the teaching process, even from the first grade. Of course we should take into consideration the abilities of children at certain ages. This implementation is happening at several levels.

CAL computer assistent learning

The computer is used as part of the introduction of a certain topic. It allows visual demonstration of processes and phenomena. The computer is necessary otherwise we would not be able to analyze these things closely. (For example: volcano exploding, or a chemical reaction.) It is also useful to process certain topics (you can use quality graphics, effects, colors and sounds) and in this way it will make a not so attractive topic for children to be more attractive. Repeating the topic and verification of knowledge can be successfully done through testing programs. While learning through the computer, the abbreviation CAL is used, which means work with children is accomplished through these means. In this case the computer is taking over the passive role.

Computer as an active element in the teaching process

We want the informative and communicative media implemented into the teaching process as an active element allowing children to enter into communication with programs for teaching, to verify his/her knowledge, to look for information in encyclopedias or even on the web. We would like to make it possible for children to process learnt information, complementing this info with visual material and graphics. Pupils can use these skills while working or creating their projects, creating reports on some subjects, or whilst creating the school magazine. Step by step, according to age and abilities they are progressing from the easiest programs set for the youngest children, where they can fill in pictures colors and shapes through to simple answers for questions, to more difficult programs in higher grades or applications.

Through their work the children are internalizing work with informative and communicative tools naturally. These lessons don’t have to be specially prepared for this purpose. It also shows the real function of mass media tools as help for problem solving, managing and storing information to make the work easier and creating their own projects. We want to suppress the secondary function of the computer as games and entertainment tool. There are many interesting programs for teaching allowing for the application of creativity whilst working with the pc (graphics programs, programs with moving objects while learning, programs with the simulation of different situations and activities), all of this is motivating and attractive enough for work with mass communication tools, and through this at the same time, improvement through problems.
